Number of new jobs rises

<!--paging_filter-->The number of new jobs offered in the UK increased by 3% last month compared to the previous month, according to the Reed Salary Index.

Job demand has risen 7% compared to 11 months ago, and beats the previous highpoint of 105 (recorded in February) by two points to give a Reed Job Index reading of 107.

While overall job demand rose across the country, job demand rose to its highest since the Index began in Manufacturing and Marketing, demonstrating a steady return to demand across the private sector.

Across the UK job demand was higher in every region and nation for the first time since the Index began eleven months ago. The survey also revealed that salaries for new jobs slipped further back compared to last month.

"Job demand across the country is at the strongest level we have ever recorded, a full 7% higher than when the Index began. The autumn has witnessed strong growth in the jobs market," said Martin Warnes, managing director of reed.co.uk.

"Although salaries continue to slip downwards as applicant levels reach record highs, the threat of an imminent economic double-dip certainly seems to be receding which is great news for job-seekers."

Job market growth slows again

<!--paging_filter-->The number of job vacancies in the UK increased last month at the slowest rate in almost a year, according to a survey by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC).

The number of people appointed to permanent jobs in September also grew by its slowest pace in 12 months.

"The report shows that the jobs market is starting to flatline and may herald a 'double dip' in employment," said Kevin Green, chief executive of the REC.

"While there is growth, these figures are the worst we have seen for a year. The government must do everything possible to avert the threat of increasing unemployment."<p><a href="http://an.ibmg.positive-dedicated.net/news/job-market-growth-slows-again">read more</a></p>

Job market growth slows

<!--paging_filter-->Job appointments increased at the slowest rate for ten months in August, according to data released by The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (Rec).

Rec has said that both permanent and temporary placements rose at the weakest rate since October 2009 and rises in pay also continued to slow.

The body did, reveal though that there are opportunities in some sectors, such as chefs, nurses, engineers and internet developers, where there were a shortage of skilled workers.

Growth is rapidly slowing as public sector job freezes start to bite. A priority for government is to ramp up the support and guidance for job-seekers and to raise awareness of these growth areas within our labour market," said Rec's chief executive Kevin Green.

Jobs market to ‘stall’

<!--paging_filter-->Recovering in the UK's job market will stall as demand for workers in the public sector falls, according to new research from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).

The CIPD's data shows that a third of employers expect to cut jobs in the next three months.

The worst of the job losses will occur in the public sector, with 36% of those surveyed looking to lose staff.

Across all sectors employers are expecting to make an average of 5.5% of their workforces redundant, up from the 3.6% average cut being considered three months ago.

"The employment situation looks like a case of the good, the bad and the ugly," said Gerwyn Davies, CIPD public policy adviser.

"While the number of employers planning to make redundancies is similar to that in the spring, this trend masks the true extent of forthcoming job losses in the third quarter of the year."

The CIPD have predicted that a rise in unemployment figures over the next two years is a very real possibility.
