Job boards are one of the most cost effective solutions for all recruitment campaigns and give you instant access to millions of jobseekers. They are highly accessible, simple to use and often come with a range of features to enhance your job postings and CV searches.

Did you know that using the wrong keywords might mean the perfect candidate is overlooked? And overusing a keyword could trigger your job advert as spam?
Problems like these are easy to make but even easier to solve.  Myself and the team at CV-Library have put together our top ten tips which guarantee to help you get the most out of your job board, saving you both time and money.

1 - Avoid Keyword Spam. Keywords are important but it is vital you don't overuse them when posting a vacancy.  As a general rule try not to use the same keyword more than 5 times.  This will ensure your advert isn't considered as spam.

2 - Don't Bore Candidates. When writing a vacancy start off with the most important information.  Jobseekers want to know about the job role not the company; that information can come later.

3 - Salary inclusion. Increase applications by including a salary.  If you don't want the salary to be disclosed you should still include a guideline amount, such as £1-£30k, then tick ‘hide the salary', so candidates searching by salary can still see your job posting.

4 - Map searches. If you're searching for candidates by region you can use the UK map, once logged in to CV-Library, to speed up a general location search.

5 - Match tools. If your search is quite general the minimum match tool is very useful, however for more specific searches such as ‘bioprocess scientist' we recommend leaving the match at 0%. This will ensure no CVs containing your keywords are overlooked.

6 - Looking for a linguist? Looking for candidates fluent in a language? Include the language as a keyword or make use of the fluent languages option on the CV search page.

7 - Multiple locations. Narrow the location information down as much as possible.  Postcodes are not visible to candidates but they will ensure your vacancy appears on their searches.  If the role isn't based in a specific location it is best practice to post the vacancy in multiple locations rather than just ‘UK'.

8 - Screening questions. Additional questions can be included when posting a vacancy to quickly measure how suitable the candidate is.  They are particularly helpful if you start receiving a large amount of applications.

9 - Boolean searches. When searching a CV database follow the Boolean method to achieve a more specific search. The Boolean method of searching is used widely on the internet in order to achieve a more specific search. By combining keywords and phrases with the Boolean operators; AND, OR, NOT, "speech marks" and brackets you are able to limit, widen or define your search.

10 - Vital keywords. Don't miss out on the perfect candidate by overlooking important keywords.  When making a search include as many keywords as possible that describe the type of candidates that would fit your role.
Using an online job board could be the answer to your next recruitment campaign.
